iPad 2 Vs. Motorola Xoom

“Year 2010 was the year of tablets,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs at the event in San Francisco while he unveiled the second generation iPad, the iPad 2. He was right when he said that because year 2010 saw a huge sea of tablets coming from major players with a sole aim to become the most convincing iPad killer after the launch of the original iPad in year 2009 that took the world by storm.
In a blow by blow comparison between Xoom vs. iPad 2, one can see which tablet to buy. Apparently both are similar and only upon close scrutiny one can find difference between the two. The screen size of the iPad 2 is 9.7-inch whereas that of Motorola Xoom is 10.1-inch, not a significant difference. Each of them come with 1GHz dual core processor, it is Nvidia Tegra 2 in Xoom and Apple A5 in iPad2. Both the tablets have cameras, front facing and rear. Motorola Xoom has a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front facing camera while iPad 2 has a VGA front facing camera with Face Time feature and a rear camera with 720p resolution.


The iPad 2 is lighter not only than the original iPad but also than Motorola Xoom. iPad 2 weighs 1.35lbs while Xoom weighs 1.6lbs. The iPad2 comes in a variety of memory options namely, 16, 32 and 64GB while Xoom comes in 32GB memory. The screen resolution of both the tablets is however nearly the same, the screen of iPad2 has a resolution of 1,024 x 768 while that of Xoom is 1,280 x 800. The operating system of the iPad 2 is iOS 4.3 while Xoom runs on Google’s Android v 3.0. Android v 3.0 is designed specifically for tablets whereas if you like Apple’s OS, then iOS 4.3 is the latest by Apple. iPad 2 is available through AT&T and Verizon Wireless whereas Xoom is only available through Verizon.

The price comparison of the two tablets- Apple iPad2 is priced between $499 and $829 and Motorola Xoom is priced between $599 and $799. iPad 2supports 300k applications, the maximum for any tablet in the market while Xoom supports 100k applications. Both the brands however have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR and AGPS but you get Wi-Fi only model with iPad2.

Tim Cook-Apple's New CEO is a GAY...!!!

Apple's chief executive Steve Jobs has left operations chief Tim Cook in command during extended periods of medical leave three times now, indicating confidence in a man who has been described as Jobs' heir apparent for years.

Valleywag profiled Cook as being "as reticent to acknowledge his sexual orientation as he has his prowess in overseeing the company supply chain," noting that despite being a "famously quiet and collected person," Cook "will find his backstory, both personal and professional, the topic of increasing interest and discussion in the tech community."

The profile notes that "Cook's rise to his position—he is one of the most powerful corporate executives in the world, to say nothing of being the most powerful gay person in tech by a mile—is also a tribute to his skill and work ethic on the one hand, and to the utterly unconventional and unconventionally empowering people skills of Jobs on the other."

Unflappable

The profile detailed Cook's background, in particular describing his recruitment by Jobs from Compaq in 1998, noting that "'unflappable' demeanor may have been what sealed the deal with Jobs. 'Steve is very focused on people he can connect to emotionally' a recruiter present at the meeting later said."

Cook is credited with rapidly fixing Apple's "notorious manufacturing inefficiencies" and solved the inventory problems that dogged the company's ability to supply enough of popular products like the PowerBook while spending too much to warehouse models that weren't.

Cook is also noted as the brain behind identifying flash RAM as a critical component that Apple needed to secure vital access to via a multiyear contract worth more than $1 billion. Cook has since unveiled a new $3.9 billion plan intended to secure priority access to strategic components.

Described as a workaholic who survives on a diet of "an endless series of energy bars," Cook is said to pride himself "on being first into the office and the last one out," and expects a similar level of commitment from others.

Different from Jobs

Unlike Jobs, Cook is not seen to be a product visionary nor a "compelling public speaker," tasks Apple's management team has delegated to design chief Jonathan Ive and marketing chief Phil Schiller, respectively. Like Jobs however, Cook hasn't been shy about thawing sharp critiques at competitors' products, recently describing various vendor's tablet products as being "big, heavy, expensive," "bizarre," or simply "vapor."

Described as both a "fitness nut in the gym by 5 AM," and "relatively withdrawn," Valleywag noted that it has "heard from two well-placed sources" that Cook is gay, and that "it sounds like Cook's sexual orientation has been the topic of at least some discussion within the company."

The profile cited "one tech executive who has spoken to multiple Apple management veterans about Cook" as reporting being "told executives there would support Cook if he publicly acknowledged his orientation, and even would encourage him to do so as he steps up his leadership role, but that they also had concerns about whether his coming out would impact the perception of the Apple brand."

Also noted was Cook's 1996 misdiagnosis with multiple sclerosis, something that caused him to "see the world in a different way," and has prompted him to help raise funds for research of the disease since.

According to the official release on the Apple site, iOS 4.3 will get “more play out of AirPlay”, which means it has the wireless technology to allow the user to stream content from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch to HDTV via Apple TV which includes music, photos, and videos. The user also has the option of iTunes Home Sharing, giving the user the ability to play the entire iTunes library from anywhere in the house.
Another advancement is that of Safari, and that Nitro JavaScript engine is twice as fast as iOS 4.2. There is also the customizable switch on the side of the iPad to lock in the screen rotation or even muting the volume.
The last big feature is that when iOS 4.3 is downloaded on the iPhone 4, it will enable a personal hotspot for sharing cellular data connection with the Mac, PC, iPad, or other Wi-Fi compatible device. Up to five devices can be put on this.

Many multicore processors are composed of two separate dies, which means some cached data has to travel outside the processor to get from core to core. That’s an inefficient way to access information. Enter the Quad-Core and 6-Core Intel Xeon processors. Their single-die, 64-bit architecture makes 8MB or 12MB of fully shared L3 cache readily available to each of the processor cores. The result is fast access to cache data and greater application performance. Combine that with the other technological advances and you get a Mac Pro that’s up to 1.5x faster than the previous generation.¹

System memory is often connected to a processor through a separate I/O controller. But Intel Xeon “Nehalem” and “Westmere” processors feature an integrated memory controller. By connecting memory directly to the processor, the new Mac Pro processors have faster access to data stored in memory, and memory latency is reduced.

The integrated memory controller, along with fast DDR3 ECC SDRAM at either 1066MHz or 1333MHz, gives Mac Pro an increase in memory bandwidth over previous generations. More bandwidth allows for more data to be fed to the processor faster, helping each core spend its time processing data, not waiting for information to arrive. And Error Correction Code (ECC) corrects single-bit errors and detects multiple-bit errors automatically. That’s especially important in mission-critical and compute-intensive environments.

Power when (and where) you need it.

The Mac Pro features Turbo Boost, a dynamic performance technology that automatically boosts the processor clock speed based on workload. If you’re using an application that doesn’t need every core, Turbo Boost increases the speed of the active ones, up to 3.33GHz on a 12-core Mac Pro, and up to 3.6GHz on a 6-core system.

Up to 24 virtual cores.

The Intel Xeon processors support Hyper-Threading, which allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core. So, for example, a 12-core Mac Pro presents 24 virtual cores that are recognized by Mac OS X. Performance is enhanced because Hyper-Threading enables the processor to take better advantage of the execution resources available in each core.
